Rio de Janeiro is the Marvelous City and Brazil’s most famous destination with attractions like the Christ Statue, Sugar Loaf and Copacabana and Ipanema Beach.

Rio de Janeiro is often called the ‘Marvellous City’ by its inhabitants, the Cariocas. It is indeed one of the most beautiful and exciting cities in the world. Uniquely situated on a narrow strip of land between the green mountains and the deep blue sea, it is surrounded by granite based mountains, coves and white sand beaches. The most famous coastal mountain is the Pao de Acucar (Sugar Loaf), which has wonderful views of the city, the bay, and the Corcovado (the statue of Christ).

When one thinks of Rio de Janeiro, beautiful beaches, carnival, and soccer (Brazilian football) instantly spring to mind. These are all an integral part of Rio’s vibrant culture, and make this city one of the most exciting and interesting places to visit in Brazil. Rio is blessed with stunning natural beauty and a year-round pleasant climate. The city’s inhabitants thrive on dance, music, beach, sport and sun, and have a lust for life, which is manifested in full-scale once a year at the famous Carnival in Rio, with the glamorous samba parade in the Sambodromo.

Since Rio has been elected to host soccer games during the FIFA World Cup 2014 in Brazil and to be the host city for the Olympics 2016, there is an additional pride and enthusiasm amongst the population which travelers can feel on a visit to Rio de Janeiro.
